Russian min to notify people of emergencies in Odnoklassniki, VK

MOSCOW, Nov 3 (PRIME) -- Russia’s Emergency Situations Ministry will notify citizens of possible and real force majeure in popular social networks Odnoklassniki and VKontakte (VK), which is the world’s first project implemented for rescue services, the networks’ owner, Internet giant Mail.Ru Group said in a statement, seen by PRIME on Thursday.

The ministry signed the agreement on the project with Mail.Ru Group.

“There are precedents when people warned each other about emergencies via social networks or said that they were all right. Unfortunately force majeure events take place, and now we help our users in Russia and abroad to be duly notified and get all the information they need,” Mail.Ru Group’s General Director Boris Dobrodeyev said.

“The warning system has already started working in both networks, and we see feedback like gratitude for information and an increase in communication between those who are in the same region of calamity.”

Users of Odnoklassniki and VK, who are in a zone of emergency, will get a message straight into the network. The information will be updated online and tied to a geolocation. Users will get accurate data on the situation.

Information on measures of protection and useful contacts, among others, will be also available in the social networks.
